River Nene
Billing Bridge to Cogenhoe Mill
The lowdown
- The stretch starts at Billing Bridge and follows the river towards Cogenhoe Mill. Proper rural Nene fishing, with the bridge, mill and island giving the water its character.
- On the left bank, the club’s water runs for one field downstream from Billing Bridge. A short but clearly defined section.
- The right bank starts downstream of the boatyard at Billing Bridge and continues to the island at Cogenhoe Mill. Check the boundaries before settling in.
- Both banks of the island at Cogenhoe Mill are included. The opposite bank, from where the river divides around the island, is controlled by Earls Barton Angling Club.
- Pedestrian access to the island is along Mill Lane. Parking is available at the top of Mill Lane, but don’t park along Mill Lane itself — that’s not permitted.
- The named fish are bream, carp, chub, dace, perch, pike and roach. A decent coarse-fish mix, with options for both predator and silverfish anglers.
- The closed season applies from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Outside that period, follow the club’s normal Northampton Nene Angling Club rules.
- No boats or kayaks, no magnet fishing, and no crayfish trapping. Fish removal is also prohibited, so anything caught stays in the river.
- There’s no day ticket for this water. Club access is the route in, and any day-membership arrangements that apply elsewhere should not be assumed to cover this stretch.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The checked details don’t specify particular tactics, so match your approach to the river on the day. Trotting, feeder or predator methods may suit a Nene stretch, but stick to the club rules and the correct membership access.
