The full rundown on Alveley Fisheries

Alveley Fisheries looks to be Townsend Fisheries, tucked away at Townsend Farm near Alveley. Access is from Daddlebrook Road after entering the village. The venue is made up of six mature, clay-bottomed pools, so there’s a fair bit to go at.

The setup is nicely varied. There are two specimen lakes, three pleasure or match waters and one stock pool. That gives you options whether you fancy sitting on a carp lump, having a proper bagging session or just enjoying a relaxed day on the float.

Bottom Specimen Lake is around 1.5 acres, with 12 grass or hardcore pegs and room for a maximum of nine anglers. It holds common and mirror carp to nearly 30lb, grass carp to about 12lb and Wels catfish reported to 77lb. That’s some serious gear territory, especially if a whiskered lump picks up the bait.

Top Specimen Lake is roughly an acre, with 11 pegs and space for up to eight anglers. The carp run to about 30lb, grass carp to around 20lb and catfish are reported to about 55lb. Night fishing is available on both specimen lakes, but it needs arranging by phone in advance. Booking a peg ahead is highly recommended.

For lighter tackle and a bit more action, Red Bridge Pool is more than an acre and has 17 pegs. It’s a popular pleasure and match water, with F1 carp to about 8lb alongside common and mirror carp, grass carp, barbel, bream, perch, roach and rudd. The reported match record is approximately 246lb, which gives you a flavour of its bagging potential.

Day tickets are reported at £7.50 per angler, covering one peg. The Cabin sells tickets, cold snacks and drinks, with limited bait such as feeder pellets, luncheon meat and sweetcorn also reported. There’s a large car park at the entrance, plus security cameras on site.

Specimen anglers should turn up properly too. At least 12lb line, size 12 hooks or larger and a 42-inch landing net are advised, along with fish-care kit such as a cradle and antiseptic treatment. Sunday pleasure anglers should contact the fishery first, as matches may take pegs.
