The full rundown on White Springs Fishery

White Springs Fishery is a proper all-round coarse venue near Pontarddulais, covering 37 acres and split across five lakes. There’s a bit of everything here, from serious carp hunting to mixed fishing where you can keep things simple and enjoy a busy day on the bank. Day tickets are available, with 24-hour and multi-night options too, so it suits both a quick session and a longer Welsh fishing break.

The big attraction is Specimen Lake. This is approximately 9.5 acres and the main draw for anglers after a serious lump. The fishery lists mirror carp to 45.2lb, common carp to 43lb and grass carp to 32lb. Non-member tickets range from a day session through to a full week, and the Specimen Lake ticket also lets you fish the other lakes, with up to three rods per angler.

Specimen Lake allows alarms and bait boats, so there’s scope for a proper big-carp setup. Braided mainline is prohibited, lead-core leaders are limited to one metre and micro-barbed hooks up to size 2 are permitted. As always, check the current details when booking and make sure the kit in your holdall matches the rules before you’re clipped up and fishing.

The mixed coarse side gives you plenty to get stuck into as well. New Match Lake has 26 pegs and contains carp, perch, roach and chub. Canal Lake has the broadest named species list in the checked details, with bream, tench, carp, perch, roach, barbel and golden orfe. Pleasure Lake and Big Pit Lake are also part of the venue, though you’ll want to confirm the current arrangements and species details before travelling.

New Match Lake and New Canal Lake have a much tidier, stripped-back rule set: one rod, no alarms and barbless hooks up to size 10. That’s ideal for a simple float or feeder approach while you get your eye in. On any new lake, it’s worth having a quick word at the shop about recent conditions, productive areas, bait limits and which swims are available. A few minutes of planning can save a proper faff later.

White Springs is also set up nicely for longer stays, with lakeside cabins, Scandinavian log cabins, apartments, a static caravan and camping. Lakeside cabins include electric, a fridge and a kettle, while the site has toilets, showers, a launderette, secure parking, disabled-accessible swims and a tackle shop open daily from 8am to 6:30pm. Everyone must report to the shop and pay before passing through the gates. Bring a suitable unhooking mat and carp-care antiseptic, remember that loose floating bait is banned, and never sack fish. Floating retainers are limited to 20 minutes, so keep everything organised and fish welfare bang on.
