The full rundown on Earlswood Lakes

Earlswood Lakes is a cracking three-reservoir complex near Earlswood, with plenty of variety depending on the sort of session you fancy. Engine Pool and Windmill Pool offer day-ticket fishing, while Terry’s Pool has more restricted access. So, whether you fancy match-style action or a quieter natural-water plod, there’s a fair bit to get your head around before picking a swim.

Engine Pool is the main match and pleasure water, with about 60 pegs and a reputation for very large match catches. The fish mix is nicely varied too, with carp, bream, F1 carp, roach, perch and pike all in the lake. That gives you options on the bank, from a busy mixed-fish approach to targeting the bigger carp when conditions look right.

Windmill Pool has roughly 40 pegs and covers about 22 acres. It’s shared with a sailing club, so expect a livelier setting than on Terry’s Pool. Bream and skimmers are highlighted in the warmer months, while winter is the time to start thinking about the pike. Carp, roach and perch add a few more strings to your bow, making it a proper all-rounder.

Terry’s Pool is the more natural, lightly managed option, covering approximately 20 acres. It holds carp, bream, roach, perch, tench, pike and eels, so there’s plenty to keep an angler interested. Access is more limited, though, with fishing restricted to the bank adjoining Engine Pool or the numbered causeway pegs, depending on the current managing organisation. Prince Albert Angling Society information states that it became a members-only, balloted water from 1 January 2025, so check the current position before making plans.

Around the complex, there are car parks at Malthouse Lane and Wood Lane, plus footpaths and purpose-built timber fishing platforms. The platforms have bankstick and umbrella holders, which is a proper handy touch when the weather turns a bit lively. Toilets are available at Earlswood Lakes Craft Centre. Some platforms may be unusable during low summer water, so it’s worth having a flexible plan and not putting all your eggs in one swim.

A few rules need pinning down before you chuck a bait in. Hooks must be barbless or de-barbed, a landing net is required, and every fish must be returned to the water. Night fishing isn’t allowed, and a valid Environment Agency rod licence is needed. If you’re pole fishing, a pole used with a Method feeder isn’t permitted. Take sensible unhooking kit, keep the landing net ready and have a quick word with the bailiff about the best areas, current access and what’s been showing. For pike anglers, check the seasonal restrictions too: on Prince Albert Angling Society waters, pike fishing is restricted to lures from 15 March through 30 September inclusive, and it may be suspended during prolonged hot weather.
