River Severn – Arley
Arley gives Birmingham Anglers Association members access to both banks of the Severn, in an area popular with visiting anglers. Think summer chub and barbel, then roach as autumn and winter roll round.

River Severn – Arley
The lowdown
- There’s fishing on both banks at Arley under Birmingham Anglers Association. That gives you a choice of sides, but the access arrangements differ, so get your approach sorted before heading out.
- Summer is the season BAA highlights for chub and barbel here. If those are your thing, that’s the seasonal steer to build a trip around — a proper Severn pairing.
- Autumn and winter get the nod for roach. The holder’s advice gives this stretch a different focus once summer’s gone, rather than making it all about chub and barbel.
- Hemp and tares are the bait recommendation from BAA. Worth having those on your prep list, especially if the roach appeal; keep that clear steer in mind when sorting your bait.
- Heading for the right bank? Access is off the B4194, with parking beside the footbridge just beyond The Harbour Inn. Those are the landmarks to keep handy for the approach.
- For the left bank, use the public car park. BAA gives DY12 1XD as the nearby postcode, and coaches are prohibited. Members pay no parking fee at the stated Arley car parks.
- Keep your membership card handy: the access-gate code is printed on it. Close and lock the gate, then scramble the padlock numbers, both when you arrive and when you leave.
- This is a members-only option, not somewhere to turn up for a cheeky day ticket. Night fishing is prohibited too, so plan a daytime session and leave the overnight kit behind.
Methods: BAA recommends hemp and tares — that’s the clear bait steer here. Match your seasonal target to its guidance: chub and barbel in summer, roach in autumn and winter.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
