River Severn – Trimpley

Trimpley gives BAA members roughly half a mile of Middle Severn fishing, with barbel the named target and the pegs towards the railway bridge the ones to note. There’s a proper walk in through Eymore Wood, so keep the kit sensible.

The lowdown

  • This is Birmingham Anglers Association water, listed on its Trimpley & Northwood fishery page. The holder calls it Middle Severn fishing, and Trimpley itself accounts for approximately half a mile of river to work with.
  • Barbel are the headline here. BAA specifically names them for this stretch, so they’re a sensible focus when planning your session rather than building your trip around a long list of other fish.
  • The pegs towards the railway bridge get BAA’s nod as the best barbel positions. That’s the key swim pointer to keep in mind when deciding where to head with your gear.
  • There’s a long walk from the car park to the fishing. Packing only what you need is a sensible shout here — a mountain of spare tackle could mean plenty of unnecessary faff before you reach a peg.
  • The way in is along the public footpath through Eymore Wood. Make that your access plan, with the public woodland car park at the end of Eymore Lane as your starting point.
  • Don’t head for the former Trimpley-access car park at the end of Northwood Lane. It’s permanently closed, so getting the right lane sorted beforehand saves a frustrating detour with the fishing kit.
  • This is a daytime job: night fishing is prohibited. With the long walk in and back, leave yourself time for both journeys rather than treating packing up at the swim as the end of the session.
  • Get your BAA membership sorted and carry the current card on the bank. Have a suitable landing net ready too; those practical bits are worth checking before you shoulder the kit and head through the wood.

Methods: Keep barbel as the focus, with the pegs towards the railway bridge your main pointer from BAA. No particular bait or rig is specified for Trimpley.
