A cracking members-only Derwent stretch near Kirkham Abbey, running from Kirkham road bridge downstream towards Howsham Hall. It’s a proper mixed bit of river, with quick shallows, deeper glides and some lightly fished middle water.

A proper mixed coarse stretch through the Stony Stratford and Old Stratford area, run by Milton Keynes Angling Association. Expect varied Upper Great Ouse water, with pools, glides, deeps and shallows to pick apart.

Lenborough is a proper rural River Great Ouse stretch run by Buckingham & District Angling Association. There are plenty of swims to try, with chub and pike reported, and day tickets available if you fancy a day on this natural bit of river.

River Derwent at Breighton and Gunby

A proper old-school Yorkshire Derwent stretch at Breighton and Gunby, run by Hull & District Anglers’ Association. It’s a relatively deep, slow-flowing section, mainly suited to roach and dace fishing, with the odd chub or pike putting in an appearance.

Cosgrove Park — River Great Ouse

Cosgrove Park has fishing on the River Great Ouse beside the holiday park, with access for park guests and residents. It’s a bigger, more lively option than the park lakes, with barbel, chub and a proper mix of river fish.

A cracking 1.5-mile River Derwent stretch at Sutton upon Derwent, jointly run by YDAA and Leeds & District Amalgamated Society of Anglers. It’s proper deep above the bridge, with late-season roach sport the big draw.

River Derwent at Elvington, above and below Elvington Bridge

A cracking two-part bit of the Yorkshire Derwent, with H&DAA water above and below Elvington Bridge. Mostly deep and slow, but the lower section throws in shallows, weed beds and deeper holes to sniff out.

Myrtle Park is one of Bingley Angling Club’s River Aire stretches, with rights on parts of both banks around the park and riverside paths. It’s a cracking mixed coarse and game-water option, with day tickets from a proper bargain £5.

A proper bit of River Aire water around Saltaire, run by the long-established Saltaire Angling Association. It’s split into four listed lengths, with fishing on the right bank, both banks or specific left-bank sections depending on the length.

River Aire – Cottingley Bridge, Bingley

A varied River Aire ticket stretch at Cottingley Bridge, Bingley, with steep banks, wading and several separate sections to get your head around. The rugby-club length is a proper chub shout, while trout, grayling, roach, dace, pike and newly stocked barbel are all on the club’s list.

River Wharfe at Addingham

A cracking Wharfedale trout-and-grayling stretch near Addingham, with the main fishery running from above the Bolton Road pumping station down to Olicana Caravan Park. Much of it is double bank, and day tickets are available online — but numbers are tight, so don’t leave it until the last minute.

The Bingley Gas Works stretch is a River Aire section run by Bingley Angling Club, with mixed coarse and fly-fishing opportunities in a proper Aire Valley urban and semi-rural setting. It’s day-ticket water, with the club identifying it as “R Aire, Gas works, Upper limit”.

River Wharfe at Ilkley

A cracking, scenic mile of the River Wharfe at Ilkley, running from the old packhorse bridge downstream to the noticeboard below Ben Rhydding stepping stones. It’s characterful water with pools, glides and rapids, and fishing on both banks for most or all of the stretch.

River Aire – Gibraltar Island to Thwaite Mill

A cracking club-only stretch of the River Aire, running downstream from Gibraltar Island to Thwaite Mill at Thwaite Gate, Leeds. Fishing is on the right bank, between two weirs, with the canalised urban river and Aire and Calder Navigation giving it a proper industrial riverside feel.

A cracking five-mile estate stretch of the River Wharfe, running from Barden Bridge to Kex Beck. Bolton Abbey Estate offers varied fishing across six beats, with proper spate-river character, wild and stocked brown trout, and grayling in the mix.

A cracking six-plus-mile run of the Wharfe, stretching from near Linton stepping stones down to Barden Bridge. ABBAC’s water is mainly double bank, with proper upland fly water, limestone scenery and a lovely mix of pools, glides, riffles and pocket water.

Keighley Angling Club’s Aire waters run for roughly 10 miles around Keighley, including the Keighley and Stockbridge area. It’s a proper mixed fishery, with coarse and game water and plenty of variety for different styles.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
