Little Barford Power Station is a cracking 350-yard section of the River Great Ouse, just upstream of St Neots. SDAA describes it as an excellent mixed fishery, with proper river carp, tench and zander in the mix.

Sacrewell Meadows, River Nene

Sacrewell Meadows is a proper picturesque River Nene stretch near Wansford and Sacrewell Farm, with good nearby access and a few hidden gems tucked into its meadow setting. It’s back on the P&DAA ticket for the 2026 season and offers general coarse fishing.

River Welland · Day ticket
The Coronation Channel at Spalding is a broad, engineered Fenland waterway with a cracking bit of fishing history. It’s run by Peterborough & District Angling Association and offers day-ticket coarse fishing, including bream, tench and carp.

Nobles Field is a small meadow stretch on the River Great Ouse at St Ives, run by St Ives Fish Preservation and Angling Society. It’s noted as a productive bream area after floods, with roughly three pegs used in club matches.

Lavendon Meadows is a remote, peaceful Great Ouse stretch run by Olney & Clifton Fishing Association and shared with Biggleswade & Hitchin Angling Association. It’s club-members-only water, with three very different sections, proper variety and night fishing allowed.

Oakley Weir is a proper River Great Ouse club stretch beside Oakley village, with the weir, church-side bank and bridge all part of the picture. The farm-side section has been lost, but the stretch opposite the church and the weir remain available to Blunham & District Angling Club members.

A proper natural, lightly managed Welland stretch west of Stamford, run by GAAFFS and aimed squarely at trout and grayling. It’s uncrowded, varied and fly-only on designated water, with catch and release throughout.

Old West River, Little Thetford — North Bank

A cracking little fenland stretch on the north bank of the Old West River at Little Thetford, run by Saffron Walden Angling Club. It starts at the junction with the Great Ouse and runs upstream to a fence roughly 1,000 yards away.

Old Bedford River (Denver to Magdalen Bridge and beyond)

A cracking three-mile run of the Old Bedford River, starting at the new road bridge by Old Bedford Sluice at Salter’s Lode and heading upstream towards Magdalen Bridge and beyond. It’s KLAA water in the tidal Great Ouse system, with day tickets and season permits available.

Old West River, Little Thetford

A cracking rural fenland stretch on the north bank of the Old West River at Little Thetford. Saffron Walden Angling Club holds the sole fishing rights, with around 1,000 yards running upstream from the Great Ouse junction to a fence.

Offord Cluny to Brampton (A, B & C Sections)

A cracking run of the River Great Ouse through Offord Cluny, Buckden and on towards Brampton, split into A, B and C sections. It’s members only, with a proper mix of quicker water, deeper glides and slower river to get your teeth into.

Willow Tree Island at Offord is a proper secluded Great Ouse venue, with the main river on one side and a deep backwater on the other. LAA members get around 30 swims, all within an easy stroll of the pontoon.

Park Farm, Stevington

Park Farm at Stevington is a proper deep, steady River Great Ouse member water, tucked upstream of Oakley Weir. It fishes very differently from the usual upper Ouse, with excellent roach sport and a cracking mix of perch, pike and bream.

Priory Country Park – River Great Ouse

Priory Country Park sits partly inside a bend of the River Great Ouse, with fishing available in designated waters managed by Bedford Borough Council. It’s permit-only, with the 2026–27 season running from 16 June 2026 to 14 March 2027.

Barford Bridge Meadow is the LAA-run stretch at Great Barford on the River Great Ouse. It’s a proper fishy bit of river, with lure-friendly bank, big perch and pike, plus the wider Great Barford/Roxton area throwing up cracking mixed bags.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
