The full rundown on Hawkhurst Fishery
Hawkhurst Fish Farm, also known as Hawkhurst Fishery, sits on Hastings Road, Hawkhurst, Kent, TN18 4RT. It’s a sizeable complex with seven named lakes: Main, Dove, Four Trees, Quarry, Match, Junior and Specimen.
The headline waters are Main and Dove. Main is around 4 acres, with 14 swims and space for up to 11 anglers. Common and mirror carp approach 40lb, while catfish go over 80lb. A 110lb catfish was stocked there in February 2024, so there are some seriously chunky lumps in the mix.
Dove is a smaller 2-acre lake with eight swims and room for six anglers. It holds common and mirror carp over 36lb, plus catfish to a recorded 66lb. That sounds like a neat option if you fancy a more compact carp session without stepping straight onto the biggest water.
Four Trees is only about three-quarters of an acre, but it’s got a mixed bag of species. Carp reach 25lb, catfish 36lb, tench 9lb, perch 4lb and pike 9lb, with roach to 1.5lb. There are eight jetties, although only four are fishable, so check the swim arrangements before setting off.
For a more action-packed day, Quarry is billed as a heavily stocked runs water. It has 12 spacious jetties, parking beside some of them, and carp to 25lb alongside catfish to 42lb. It’s day-ticket only, running from 7am to 7pm, with anglers aged 12 or over.
Match Lake is just over an acre and is heavily stocked with carp from ounces to over 12lb, plus other coarse fish. Day tickets also run 7am to 7pm, and the whole lake can be hired for a 20-peg match or group session. That makes it the obvious shout for bagging up, club days and keeping everyone busy.
The rules matter here. Barbless hooks are required, while lead core, fixed leads, plastic baits and zig rigs are banned. You’re generally limited to two rods, which must not be left unattended, and live or dead baiting, lures and treble hooks are prohibited. Night fishing must be booked and paid for in advance, so don’t just turn up hoping to sneak in after dark.

How we'd fish Main Lake
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
Venue rule: Fixed leads are banned here, so use a lead clip set to drop the lead or an inline lead.
catfish
Big hookbaits after dark for the cats
Catfish come out at night and like strong smells. A big halibut pellet or fish-based bait over a small bed of pellet is the usual approach.
- Fish strong — 20lb+ line and a big strong hook.
- Use an unhooking mat and a big net; cats are long and heavy.
- Check the venue's rules on cat tackle before you set up.

- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.

Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

How we'd fish Junior Lake

- Check the venue's rules on cat tackle before you set up.

tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

Our take on the feedback
Our read
Checked Sept '26 — “Hawkhurst Fish Farm is a proper multi-lake complex near Hawkhurst, with everything from bitey Match Lake sessions to hefty carp and catfish waters. There’s a cracking spread of swims, prices and styles, although the rules are fairly tight.”
This is our own summary of recurring public feedback and the venue details we checked, not a copied customer review or a promise you’ll catch. Feedback changes, so we keep it separate from the Tackle Index score.
