The full rundown on Twynersh Fishing Complex
Twynersh is built on a 1970s gravel works, left to mature for close to a decade before being landscaped into the eight-pit complex it is today. The whole site covers around 44 acres and was recognised by Surrey Wildlife Trust as a site of nature conservation importance in January 2004.
Day tickets cover five of the eight pits — Old Match Lake, Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 5 and Pit 7 — on a first-come, first-served basis, no booking needed except for Pit 6. Pits 3 and 4 are members-only, and Pit 6 is a fenced-off, bookable exclusive lake with its own cabin.
A 2025 online review flagged up weed management as a weak point, describing duckweed left to build up until a complaint prompted action, alongside plenty of more positive reviews about the bailiffs and the shop. We've linked both rather than only quoting the good ones.

“What a brilliant fishery I took my son and his friends for the day and they couldn't be happier nor wait to get back. Such a lovely well looked after place with clean facilities.”

“Social media photos show the work done by cutting the grass and the maintained banks but weed in the lakes is often out of control, managed by getting some rakes out and filling up a small boat. I observed that nothing is done until somebody complains.”

Twynersh Fishing Complex FAQs
How many lakes can I day-ticket at Twynersh?
Five: Old Match Lake, Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 5 and Pit 7. Pits 3 and 4 are members only, and Pit 6 is a separately bookable exclusive lake.
Is there a café on site?
The fishery's own page says the café is currently closed for major redevelopment work, with plans for a bigger replacement — worth checking before relying on it.
What do recent reviews say?
Mostly positive about the bailiffs, shop and fishing, though one detailed 2025 review was critical of how weed build-up on the lakes was managed — we've linked it alongside the good reviews.
Where's the nearest tackle shop?
There's onsite tackle shop selling tickets, drinks and snacks on site, so you can grab bits on the day. For anything bigger, stock up before you leave home — or order online in advance.
Do I need to bring food?
There's onsite tackle shop selling tickets, drinks and snacks listed, but opening times vary, so pack snacks and plenty of water just in case — especially on a long session.
Are there toilets on site?
Yes — the fishery lists toilets.
Is there parking, and how close is it to the swims?
Yes — parking. Walks to the further pegs can be a trek, so a barrow helps.
What's the postcode for the sat nav?
KT16 9EJ. The complex sits off Thorpe Road, Chertsey — the entrance and car park are signed from the road rather than via a single pinpoint postcode, so follow the fishery's own directions on arrival.

How we'd fish Old Match Lake
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On a big lake with gravel bars, a good bed of bait on or behind a bar gives roaming fish a reason to stop and feed for longer.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
carp
Light baiting tight to the lily beds
Carp patrol the lily beds on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.
carp
Solid PVA bag over the snaggy bits
With the lily beds and a busy bottom, a solid bag keeps the hook point masked on the drop and sat neatly in a little pile of bait however rough the lakebed is.
- Tie a short, stiff hooklink (4–6in) so it packs into the bag without kinking.
- Fill the bag with a damp crumb mix and pack it tight — loose bags spill on the cast.
- Nick a wafter or small pop-up on the hair so it settles over the mix, not under it.
- Cast a few yards short of the feature, recast every couple of hours with a fresh bag.
pike
Static deadbaits for the pike
A smelly deadbait on the bottom near drop-offs or reed lines is the classic, reliable way to find a lake's pike, especially in the colder months.
- Sardine, smelt or mackerel on a wire trace with semi-barbless trebles.
- Strike early — never let a pike run off with the bait.
- Have a long forceps, unhooking mat and big net ready before you cast.

- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.

Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.

- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

Pit 5 is Twynersh's smallest day-ticket water at half an acre, and the fishery has flagged it as a project lake: plans describe draining it down, raising water levels to 6ft, removing most of the current stock and re-stocking with crucian carp, F1s and some tench, alongside lily pads and redesigned swims.
Depths currently run 0.5–4 metres. Given the stated project is still working through, it's worth asking the shop what the current stock actually looks like before planning a trip here specifically.
The fishery says 800lb of bream to 14lb and around 300lb of roach to 3lb were introduced in winter 2019, alongside existing carp and pike stock; most carp have since been removed as part of a planned re-stocking.
Heads up: The fishery describes a 2024 project to convert Pit 5 into a crucian/F1/tench water; current stock may not match older third-party listings.

A bigger bed of bait at range
On wide, open water the fish move about a lot — a decent bed of bait at range holds a passing group long enough to get a bite.

How we'd fish Pit 7
- Cast a few yards short of the feature, recast every couple of hours with a fresh bag.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.
bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.

How we'd fish each lake
Our own suggestions, worked out from each lake's features, its main fish and the venue rules. They're tried-and-tested methods, not reports from this venue, so watch the water and ask in the tackle shop on the day.
Old Match Lake
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.

carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On wide, open water the fish move about a lot — a decent bed of bait at range holds a passing group long enough to get a bite.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
bream
Groundbait feeder at range for bream
Bream shoal up and graze over open, silty areas. A steady stream of groundbait in one spot keeps a shoal in front of you.
- Clip up and hit the same spot every cast.
- Start with 8–10 feeders quickly, then recast every 5 minutes.
- Worm, maggot or corn on a size 14–16.
