The full rundown on Kingsbury Water Park Fishery

Fancy a carp session, a tench hunt or a day with a bit more variety? Kingsbury Water Park Fishery gives you plenty to chew over. Based at Bodymoor Heath, B76 0DY, it has 12 fishing lakes covering over 125 acres of water, all within a 620-acre country park. That's a proper spread, rather than one pond trying to keep every sort of angler happy. The main job is choosing the water and permit that suit your fishing.

The fishery reports carp over 44lb, pike to 25lb, bream to 11lb and tench to 8lb across the venue. Those are eye-catching figures, but don't read them as a promise for every pool. Pine Pool has its own clearer carp picture: 7.5 acres with commons and mirrors into the low 30lb range. If carp are your thing, that's a useful starting point when weighing up where to spend your session.

For mixed fishing, Gibsons Pool brings carp, tench, bream, roach, perch and pike together over 4.5 acres. Mill Pool offers a bigger, boat-free stretch at 12.5 acres, with bream, carp and pike. Causeway is a three-acre mixed coarse water that can also be booked for contests. Then there's Cliff Pool South: three acres, shallow and silty, with tench, bream and pike. That bottom description is worth keeping in mind when thinking about presentation.

Day-ticket arrangements are fairly straightforward once you've picked your pool. Standard adult fishing is £8.25, with a £6.80 concession ticket; Pine costs £10.45 with no concessions. Parking is included, so there's no separate parking ticket to buy. Machines are near the main-entrance fishing lodge and in Broomey Croft car park, and they're card-only. Keep one half of the ticket with you bankside and put the other half on display in your vehicle.

Thinking beyond a single day? Pine and Gibsons day and night sessions can be booked through Go Catch. Annual coarse permits cover nine coarse lakes and the designated River Tame section in season, while the specimen carp permit adds daytime Pine fishing. The specimen night permit covers Canal and Broomey Croft night fishing plus daytime waters. Numbers are limited for that night permit, and holders can fish up to three consecutive nights. Ordinary day tickets don't cover Canal or Broomey Croft.

Lake fishing runs year-round, but don't let a late bite turn into a gate-time faff. From April through September, fishing can continue until 9pm and you must leave by 9:30pm. Ordinary winter fishing follows the displayed park hours, with earlier finishes in the darkest months. The River Tame has its own close season, from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Sort the right ticket, check the clock and you've got a cracking range of fishing to choose from.
