The full rundown on More House Farm Fishery

More House Farm is a handy-looking option if your fishing mood changes between a busy mixed bag and a longer wait for a lump. There are five lakes: Canal, Sidewinder, Kingfisher, Oaks and Dogwood. They offer quite different sessions, so choosing your water matters here. Despite the Haywards Heath association, the official address is Ditchling Road, Wivelsfield Green, East Sussex, RH17 7RE. Use that for planning your journey rather than assuming a pond marker shows the entrance.

For mixed coarse fishing, start with Canal and Sidewinder. Canal has 20 pegs, carp, tench and silver fish, with a width of approximately 15 metres and depths of 4.5–6 feet. Sidewinder is the bigger setup by peg count, with 50, and holds carp, chub, skimmers, roach, perch and bream. At roughly 8–16 metres wide and 5–6 feet deep, it gives you useful dimensions to think about when sorting your pole or float gear.

Fancy a more carp-focused visit? Kingfisher holds common, mirror and ghost carp, plus catfish. Oaks has just five pegs, with the fishery listing carp of 15–33lb. Dogwood has 11 pegs and lists tench alongside carp of 8–32lb. Those are the venue’s own stock claims, not a promise that a PB is waiting under your rod tip. Oaks and Dogwood both opened in October 2021, adding two distinct choices to the lineup.

There’s a bit of booking faff to get straight before loading the car. Coarse-lake day tickets are available on arrival, but check the match calendar or ring about availability first. Specimen lakes are booked through Catch, with additional membership required; that can be arranged on arrival after booking. For a coarse-lake night session, contact the fishery directly. Don’t assume that having a 24-hour price means you can simply turn up late and settle into any swim.

Timing matters too. The gates open before the official opening time, and early arrivals need to pay before reaching their peg to avoid the extra charge. Day anglers have an evening departure deadline, with dusk closing in winter. Longer-session anglers also have an arrival cut-off. It’s all manageable with a little planning, but this isn’t somewhere to leave the payment arrangements until you’re already clipped up and fishing.

On the practical side, there’s an on-site shop and fishery-supplied nets for every lake. Leave personal nets, mats and weigh slings away from the lakeside. Barbless hooks are compulsory, and surface fishing, floating baits, bread, flake, mainline braid and bait boats are out. Worms, meat, maggots, pulses and boilies are among the permitted baits. Plenty to build a session around, then — just pick your lake, sort the booking and get your tackle bob on before travelling.
