Cundall Lodge Farm Fishery gives you about a mile of River Swale bank at Cundall, North Yorkshire, with the adjoining oxbow lake included too. It’s a proper day-ticket venue, nicknamed the “animal farm” for its big barbel.

Low Moor to West Bradford, River Ribble

A proper Ribble fly-fishing beat running for roughly three miles from Low Moor upstream to West Bradford, near Clitheroe. It takes in the famous Waddow Weir pool, with two big holding pools for migratory fish and a bit of salmon history.

A cracking River Tees stretch from St Mary’s Well below Gainford Churchyard upstream to Barforth Wath. It’s permit-only water run by the volunteer Gainford Riverside Trust, with day and annual permits available.

Ribchester Village Front Stretch — River Ribble

The Village Front Stretch is a cracking little day-ticket reach on the Ribble beside Ribchester village. You get roughly 400 yards of single-bank fishing, running from the concrete “tush” at the top of the allotments down to the rocks before the farm.

Raby Estate Upper Tees – North Bank between Cauldron Snout and Dent Bank

A proper wild Upper Tees beat on the north bank, running between Cauldron Snout and Dent Bank near Middleton-in-Teesdale. Expect upland river character, with pools, riffles, rapids and rocky water, plus some serious wading to think about.

Blackwell Waters – River Tees between Blackwell Road Bridge and Blackwell Pumping Station

Blackwell Waters is Darlington Anglers Club’s most popular River Tees stretch, running for roughly 1.5 miles along the County Durham bank. It’s a cracking mix of gravelly river features, flowing water and deeper holding areas, with plenty of rural scenery around Blackwell Holm and Stapleton Corner.

A cracking 1.5-mile members-only beat on the Ribble near Hurst Green, with long riffles, proper pools and a good mix of game and coarse water. Sale Wheel is the headline pool, while the lower end is noted for barbel.

A cracking 1.5-mile middle-reaches stretch on the northern bank of the Tees, running from High Coniscliffe to Merrybent. It’s varied water too, with deep holding pools, gravelly runs and easy wading — bob on for a proper day on the river.

Grindleton Pools is scenic, natural Ribble water run by Ribblesdale Angling Association. It’s mainly a club-members job, with three pools offering a cracking mix of fly fishing, spinning and bait work.

Nags Head and Oxney Flatts is a cracking two-mile River Tees stretch on the County Durham bank, run by Darlington Anglers Club. It runs from Blackwell Pumping Station down to the mouth of the River Skerne, with some of the club’s best-performing pegs in the mix.

A cracking, broad and varied Tees beat on the Durham bank, centred on the Meeting of the Waters where the Greta joins the Tees. The Bay of Plenty pool sits just below the confluence, with wide, deep water and some proper river character.

A cracking 2.5 km club stretch on the upper River Wensum, with the Fakenham Angling Club water on the right, south bank. It’s clear, spring-fed and properly wild-looking above the A1065, with wild brown trout, dace and roach to keep things interesting.

A proper wild upper-Tees beat, with around 10 miles of south and west bank fishing from the Middleton-in-Teesdale area towards High Force. It’s fly only, with dark peat-stained brown trout, salmon water lower down and some seriously lively wading.

Taverham Mill River Wensum Stretch

Taverham Mill gives you roughly three-quarters of a mile of River Wensum, with two weir pools and a proper mix of deep water, gravel runs, lilies, reeds and snags. It’s run by Anglian Water Parks, with cracking chub fishing and plenty to keep all abilities busy.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
