The full rundown on Docklow Pools
Docklow Pools is a cracking Herefordshire complex with 13 advertised pools and lakes, plus plenty of mixed coarse fishing. There are three straightforward day-ticket waters, so it’s a handy shout whether you fancy a busy float session, a mixed bag or just a proper day on the bank without loads of faff.
The £6 ticket covers Mickey Mouse, Moby Dick or Figure of Eight. Tickets are bought through Docklow Tackle Shop, and there’s no need to reserve a peg online, with plenty of accessible pegs advertised. Still, it’s worth giving the shop a bell before travelling, as prices, rules and opening arrangements can change. Nice and simple, and it gives you a chance to ask which pool is fishing best on the day.
Mickey Mouse is Docklow’s oldest commercial pool, dating from 1972, with approximately 40 pegs. It holds carp, chub, ide, barbel, roach, skimmers and perch, so this is very much a mixed-bag water. Moby Dick has around 35 pegs and offers a similar bit-of-everything approach, with carp, bream, chub, barbel, roach and rudd. The advertised carp go over 20lb, so pack tackle that can cope with a proper lump if one comes along.
Figure of Eight is the smaller 15-peg day-ticket pool and is specifically suited to float fishing. That makes it a bob-on option for anglers who like staying busy, searching the water and keeping an eye on the margins. Take a sensible float setup, a few bait options and an open mind. On a new venue, watching what’s happening in nearby swims and asking in the tackle shop can save a fair bit of head-scratching.
For bigger-fish plans, the members’ and residents’ waters include Farmer Jack, The Snake and Tench Pool. Major Bill is the specimen pool, with seven acres, 16 spacious swims and advertised catfish over 70lb, grass carp to 31lb and carp over 30lb. These aren’t part of the standard £6 day-ticket offer, so check access arrangements before loading the gear. It’s a heavier tackle and patience job rather than a quick chuck-and-hope session.
There’s plenty on site to make a full day comfortable, including parking, toilets, free Wi-Fi, woodland walks and an on-site tackle and bait shop. The Fisherman’s Arms bar and restaurant is handy too, with tennis, snooker and pool tables also available. Children can fish on a day ticket when accompanied by an adult. Just remember that night fishing isn’t permitted on the day-ticket waters, and any match needs booking in advance through the tackle shop.

How we'd fish Mickey Mouse
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
Venue rule: Fixed leads are banned here, so use a lead clip set to drop the lead or an inline lead.
barbel
Pellet and boilie for the lake barbel
Lake barbel feed hard and fight harder. Use a strong rod and line, and rest them properly in the net before release.
- Halibut pellet or small boilie over a bed of pellet.
- Strong hooklink and a size 10–12 hook.
- Never hold barbel out of water long — keep them in the net until they've recovered.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
perch
Worm or small lure for the perch
Perch hang round cover, boats and drop-offs. A lobworm on a light float, or a small lure worked along the features, will find them.
- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.

How we'd fish The Snake
Venue rule: Fixed leads are banned here, so use a lead clip set to drop the lead or an inline lead.
tench
Method or maggot feeder for tench
Tench love margins and weedy patches. A feeder puts a small, tight patch of bait right by the hookbait.
- Fish 10–20 yards out, or tight to the cover where it's safe to land fish.
- Recast every 10–15 minutes early on to build the swim.
- Short hooklink with a dead red maggot, corn or a 8mm wafter.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.

- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.

Our take on the feedback
Our read
Checked Sept '26 — “Docklow Pools is a cracking Herefordshire complex with 13 advertised pools, three straightforward day-ticket waters and plenty of mixed coarse fishing. The £6 ticket covers Mickey Mouse, Moby Dick or Figure of Eight, with bigger-fish options on the members’ and residents’ lakes.”
This is our own summary of recurring public feedback and the venue details we checked, not a copied customer review or a promise you’ll catch. Feedback changes, so we keep it separate from the Tackle Index score.
