The full rundown on Coppice Lane Fishery
Coppice Lane Pools — also known as Coppice Lane Fishery — is on Coppice Lane at Hammerwich, near Lichfield and Burntwood in the West Midlands. The complex was established in 2001 and covers roughly 18 acres, with seven spring-fed fishing pools spread across the site. A proper choice of swims, then, whether you’re after a quiet pleasure session or fancy chasing something with a bit more shoulder.
There are 145 pegs in total, including 137 available for pleasure angling. The general waters are Becketts, Bridge, Willow, Top, Middle and Bottom, with match bookings available on Bridge, Becketts and Willow. Summer day-ticket fishing runs from 7am to 7pm between April and October, while winter hours are 7am to 4pm from November through March. The gates lock automatically at the posted closing time, so don’t get caught out faffing about at the end of the day.
There’s a cracking mix of coarse fish across the pools. Carp, tench, bream, roach, perch and rudd feature fishery-wide, with individual waters also holding crucians, barbel, chub, ide, gudgeon, F1s and roach/bream hybrids. Top Pool covers about three-quarters of an acre, has 28 pegs and depths from roughly 3ft to 9ft. Bridge has 31 pegs and carp to about 9lb, while Willow is just over an acre, has 26 concrete pegs and carp to around 18lb.
Bottom Pool is a smaller 10-peg water, with depths ranging from about 1.5ft to 8ft. That spread of depths means it’s worth taking a minute before setting up rather than automatically piling bait into the margins. On a new venue, have a proper look at the water, ask the bailiff where fish have been showing and keep the first attack simple. A light float setup, feeder kit and a few hookbait options should give you room to adjust without bringing the whole tackle shop.
For a bigger target, Coppice Mill Specimen Pool covers over two acres, averages around 5ft deep and reaches roughly 7ft. The fishery lists approximately 100 double-figure carp, including commons, mirrors, ghost carp and a leather carp, with fish listed at around 15lb to 30lb+ and a stated record of 36lb. Sessions must be booked and paid for in advance through Clubmate. Day sessions run 7am to 7pm, 24-hour sessions are available, and anglers must be aged 18 or over.
The general waters run on sensible, clear rules, including one rod per angler, barbless hooks and a maximum size 12 hook. Maggots, casters, worm, sweetcorn, carp pellets, paste, bread on the hook and luncheon meat on the hook are allowed, while keepnets are prohibited except during matches. Bring a landing net, mat and the kit needed for disinfection, and check the full rules before travelling. On-site parking, toilets, disabled-accessible facilities and ramp access are available, while Coppice Lodge serves hot and cold food and sells a selection of bait.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Becketts Pool
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.
bream
Groundbait feeder at range for bream
Bream shoal up and graze over open, silty areas. A steady stream of groundbait in one spot keeps a shoal in front of you.
- Clip up and hit the same spot every cast.
- Start with 8–10 feeders quickly, then recast every 5 minutes.
- Worm, maggot or corn on a size 14–16.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

How we'd fish Top Pool
carp
Chod or helicopter style over soft weed and silt
Where the bottom drops in and out of holes or there might be soft silt or weed, a pop-up that slides up the leader sits over the muck instead of disappearing into it — no need to find a perfectly clean spot.
- Single pop-up, 2–3in off the bottom.
- Fish it as a single hookbait or with a light scattering of freebies — a big bed defeats the point.
- Cast to likely holes and let the lead settle; don't drag it back.
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On wide, open water the fish move about a lot — a decent bed of bait at range holds a passing group long enough to get a bite.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
bream

If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.

The listed fish include roach, rudd, perch, tench, crucian carp, ide, F1s and roach/bream hybrids. It’s a proper mixed coarse option for a busy day with plenty of species possibilities.

- Loose-feed little and often to bring them up.
- Floating bread flake works brilliantly in summer.

- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.

- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.

carp
Zigs in the warmer months
In clear, deep water carp often sit up in the layers on warm days. A zig is the only way to get a bait in front of them.

Chod or helicopter style over soft weed and silt
Where the bottom drops in and out of holes or there might be soft silt or weed, a pop-up that slides up the leader sits over the muck instead of disappearing into it — no need to find a perfectly clean spot.

- Fish it as a single hookbait or with a light scattering of freebies — a big bed defeats the point.
- Cast to likely holes and let the lead settle; don't drag it back.
