Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club Site Thames stretch

A quiet little Thames-side fishing stretch at The Camping and Caravanning Club’s Chertsey site, tucked beside the campsite near Chertsey Bridge. It’s for people staying on site rather than general public day-ticket anglers, with fishing available from June to March and a proper £3 adult daily fee in 2026.

Ingleby (John Thompson) is a proper River Trent coarse-fishing stretch run by Derby Railway Angling Club. Expect fast gravel glides, deeper pools and slacks, with barbel and plenty of silverfish in the mix.

A proper mixed coarse stretch on the lowland, navigable Trent near Willington Bridge, run by Pride of Derby Angling Association. It’s members-only water, with roach, chub, barbel and bream on the club’s list.

A big, proper Derbyshire Trent holding from Swarkestone down to below Shardlow, run exclusively by Derby Railway Angling Club. It’s membership water rather than a casual day-ticket job, with rural floodplain and navigable river character in the mix.

A cracking middle-Stour stretch running from Sowley through Fiddleford Mill Pool, past Trail Bridge and down to Wesper Brook. Proper varied water too — deep pool fishing, winter roach shoals and mobile chub work lower down.

The Triangle is one of Offord & Buckden Angling Society’s named waters on the Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire. It’s a daytime day-ticket stretch with access from the main car park off Station Lane, Offord Cluny.

Pressham Wood is a cracking 350-metre Dorset Stour stretch near Durweston, run by Blandford & District Angling Club. It’s deep, sheltered and fishes from the true right bank only, with the water running down to the weir.

The Mill Stream at Offord Cluny is a small, intimate members-only running stream, fed from Black Overfalls Weir. It fishes from the weir pool down to the road bridge, with chub the main draw and some cracking barbel interest too.

Godmanchester Recreation Ground is the society’s best-known stretch on the Great Ouse — a picturesque coarse-fishing venue wrapped around an island between river channels. It’s got that handy riverside-park feel, with fishing possible in almost all weather and river conditions.

Car Park Pool at Offord Cluny is a cracking Great Ouse day-ticket water with a proper lake-like feel for much of the year. Big carp, hefty pike and a few tasty bream and perch make it well worth a look.

Colber Stretch – Sturminster Newton

A quiet, moderately deep Dorset Stour stretch around Colber Bridge, northwest of Sturminster Newton. Both banks are fishable, with slower water, reeds and a properly deep old railway-bridge hole where perch gather as winter rolls on.

Black Overfalls Weir Pool

Black Overfalls Weir Pool is a members-only Ouse venue with proper variety — chub, shoals of good bream and barbel to a serious size. It’s fed by D and E Section and the New Cut, with fishing available from the pool and the far bank of New Cut.

Bridge Meadow

Bridge Meadow is a cracking little 400-metre stretch of the Dorset Stour, running downstream to Durweston Bridge. It’s single-bank fishing on the true right bank, with a medium pace, 4–6ft of water and a decent mix of coarse fish.

Portholme Meadow

Portholme Meadow is a cracking, varied bit of River Great Ouse near Godmanchester, with roughly 4.5 miles of fishable bank. It’s run by The London Anglers’ Association and mixes river, navigation, confluence, brook, weir and mill-pool water.

Shillingstone (Haywards Bridge)

Shillingstone at Haywards Bridge is a cracking bit of Dorset Stour, with around 1,100 yards of society water running downstream for three fields to a footbridge. It’s north-bank fishing only, mixing deep, slow water with shallow reed sections and some lovely natural stalking swims.

New Cut is a small, shallow, members-only backwater off the River Great Ouse at Offord Cluny. It has no flow these days, but can still turn up good tench, with winter pike the big draw.

Parley

Parley is a proper 1¼-mile run of the Dorset Stour at West Parley, held by Ringwood & District Anglers Association. It’s coarse water in the main season, with trout and salmon fishing allowed in season too, plus night fishing on the right permit.

E Section (part of OBAS D and E Sections)
River Great Ouse · Club members
The E Section is part of OBAS’s D and E Sections on the River Great Ouse, running along the boat channel between the river and the lock feeding the Triangle’s Lock Cut. It’s a quiet, rarely fished bit of water, mainly because getting there means a proper walk from the car park.

Crown Meadows (Bryanston Park)

Crown Meadows, also known locally and on Ordnance Survey mapping as Bryanston Park, is roughly a mile of club water on the Dorset Stour. It runs upstream from Blandford Bridge to the Bryanston School boundary fence, with fishing from the true left bank on the town side.

Finding somewhere to fish near you

Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
