Holt Fleet’s Lock Island is a members-only Birmingham Anglers Association stretch on the Worcestershire Severn, with the weir pool included. The main-river side is the bit you can fish — not the whole island.

Shelford — River Trent

River Trent · Members only

Shelford is Nottingham Anglers Association’s longest river fishery, with approximately 4½ miles of Trent fishing. There’s proper variety here, from fast water below Stoke Weir to the wide, slower water at Hamms Bridge.

River Severn – Trimpley

Trimpley gives BAA members roughly half a mile of Middle Severn fishing, with barbel the named target and the pegs towards the railway bridge the ones to note. There’s a proper walk in through Eymore Wood, so keep the kit sensible.

Girton — tidal River Trent

River Trent · Full and Associate Members only

Girton gives Full and Associate Members roughly 600 metres of tidal Trent fishing, with about 30 pegs to go at. Newark and District Piscatorial Federation shares the fishery with Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers, with barbel and bream named as the expected species.

Fletchers is a 34-peg stretch on the non-tidal Trent Dyke at Farndon, run by Newark and District Piscatorial Federation. It’s open to members and day-ticket visitors, with stone-surfaced pegs and a proper winter recommendation from the club.

Blackstone is BAA’s bit of typical middle Severn water in Worcestershire, with roughly 1,500 yards of left-bank fishing below Blackstone Rock. Published depths of 4–8 feet and a species list including barbel and chub give you plenty to think about before picking a swim.

Crow Trees is a 26-peg stretch on Newark’s non-tidal River Trent Dyke, run by Newark and District Piscatorial Federation. It’s a cracking option for float fishing, with autumn and winter roach shoals and bream and skimmers highlighted earlier in the season.

Newhalls Meadow is BAA’s stretch of the Severn at Stourport-on-Severn, with winter roach the big draw. Pole, stick float or waggler with bronze maggots is the holder’s steer — proper float-fishing territory, with frequent boats to keep in mind.

Mill Gate Basin is an unpegged stretch of Newark’s non-tidal Trent Dyke, run by Newark and District Piscatorial Federation. It’s concrete-wharf fishing with an October start, boats taking priority and perch flagged as a possible target.

Hallow is Birmingham Anglers Association’s mixed fishery on the Worcestershire Severn below Bevere Weir. There’s a cracking spread of named species, from roach and bream to barbel, chub and large pike, with separate access routes worth sorting before you set off.

Ladyham is a short Birmingham Anglers Association stretch of the Worcestershire Severn, with roughly 25 pegs and an easy-paced flow. Chub, bream and occasional large barbel are on the list, with winter roach fishing getting a proper nod too.

Newport Angling Association’s Beats 1 and 2 at Symonds Yat offer day-ticket Wye fishing with proper depth, shallow rapids and a cracking mix of coarse fish. Feeder fishing is popular, but most swims leave plenty of room for a float approach too.

Finding somewhere to fish near you

Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.

Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.

Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
